Car alarms
If you're like me (God help you) then these days you don't even turn your head when you hear a car alarm, because the sound has grown so common it's faded into the background buzz of every-day city life. So here's my suggestion to car alarm manufacturers: Instead of the usual hoots and beeps, use more unusual auditory experiences that can't fail to get our attention. Examples:
- A protracted horror-movie-style female scream
- An hysterical Middle Eastern guy shouting "In the name of Allah I do this!"
- The noise a cow would make if unexpectedly attacked from above by a dragon
Who wouldn't stop and look if a car started making those kinds of sounds really loudly? Yes, okay, completely deaf people. But everyone else would. I think you see what I'm saying.
